All services are available in office and via telehealth (secure online video or telephone). As of April 3, 2023, OHA no longer requires masks in healthcare settings. You may choose to wear a mask or not, based on your risk tolerance and other factors, and I am happy to wear a mask when we meet if that is what feels most comfortable to you.
If you suspect you have an communicable illness like flu, cold, GI bug, or COVID (having symptoms, known exposure), I strongly encourage you to wear a mask, request a telehealth appointment, or reschedule your appointment when you are feeling better.
Thank you.
What is a typical session like?
A typical session lasts 50 minutes. I trust my clients and the natural process of therapy to guide the session. We will focus on what you identify as important. I listen as you talk about what's on your mind and offer questions or comments to invite new perspective and insight. Sometimes, it's appropriate to try doing something differently, so I may offer suggestions of something new to try, in session or between sessions.
The number of sessions you have and how frequently we meet is dependent on you and your goals. Some folks have a limited number of sessions, while others attend therapy over longer periods of time. Most folks find having a regularly scheduled session (weekly, every other week, monthly) works best. After you’ve met your goals, you can choose to return to therapy for “tune-up’s” or check-in’s as needed.
WHAT KIND OF THERAPY DO YOU DO?
My counseling style is open and warm. I believe that humor and playfulness can have a role in therapy and can be useful and rewarding as an adjunct to the serious work that is done in therapy. I utilize an integrated approach of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), person-centered, and depth therapy. The first two approaches (CBT and MI) focus on the effect that thoughts and beliefs have on feelings and behavior, and exploring, challenging and sometimes changing these thoughts. Person-centered therapy encourages you to be your own best expert and invites exploration, trusting the process of talk therapy. Depth therapy is based in Jungian theory (developed by Carl G. Jung), and explores the unconscious, which can hold critical information about the self and its motivations.
In addition to talk therapy, I sometimes utilize hand-outs, worksheets, workbooks, and books to supplement therapy.
I believe that mindfulness - paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment - is important not only in therapy but in day to day life as well. I may help you learn some simple mindfulness tips and techniques to help with things like tolerating emotional distress, handling bad news, relaxation, and focus.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
Individual 50-minute therapy sessions are $100/session, and the initial intake session is $150. I do offer some slots on a sliding fee scale for those for whom the full fee would be prohibitive.
Payment forms accepted included cash, check and Ivy Pay (secure text-based card system, no downloads or passwords required).
I do not accept insurance at this time.
